Ricardo Perez Gonzalez (DobleErre)

I am a multi-media artist from Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, living in Minneapolis, MN. Besides creating art, I work as a community organizer and also do professional interpreting and translation. I live with my wife Margaret and our two kids, Ramona Luisa and Leonardo Salvador and our dog Enzo.

DobleErre (DOH-blay AIR-ray) is my artistic tag name, and it translates literally to “Double R,” a reference to my first name and the long lineage of first-born Ricardo’s that precede me. Since I was born, I have always been an artist: writing poetry, drawing, painting, writing scripts, experimenting with music and video, participating in theater plays. I would even say interpreting and community organizing, which I do professionally,  are art forms for me. I love art. It completes me. I am art, and art is me. I would call my personal style abstract, surreal and caricaturesque. Some of my favorite pieces lend themselves perfectly to being printed on a button or sticker but I have also done large format murals. I enjoy creating art in concert with community and in solidarity with important social movements of the present day. I intentionally try to avoid fitting conventional molds of what is described as art. I like to challenge the notion of what is normal, creating unique visual elements that unleash people’s imagination and that are a reflection of my own psyche. I have over a decade of paintings and drawings in my collection. Some are published online, but a lot of my work is still unpublished. Contact me if you’re interested in specific pieces or to discuss a commission, project or collaboration.
